The event has been described in the IIT Madras Annual Number of 1963-1964. Lionel Paul, the Sports Secretary states in his report that the event was held on 1 and 2 February, 1964. Paul notes that there were relatively few entries from the city colleges but the event was a success.
Mr. Fischer (chief guest and Consul, Federal Republic of Germany) wrote a message in the Fifth Annual Number describing his role in Madras, “As the representative of the German Government in Madras I consider it to have been my privilege to have witnessed the gradual growth of this institution right from the blue-print stage some 4 years ago and to have played some part in this interesting and most useful development.”
IIT Madras conducts an annual basketball tournament named after Mr. Fischer.
