The DTH SWAYAM Prabha Project is funded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The National Coordinators include academicians from institutes across the country.
According to the Project's website, they have 34 DTH (Direct To Home) channels that telecast high-quality educational programmes (curriculum-based courses on several disciplines) on a 24-hours a day, 7 days a week basis using the GSAT-15 satellite. Every day, there will be new content for at least (4) hours repeated 5 more times during the day, which allows students to choose the time of their convenience. The channels are uplinked from BISAG-N, Gandhinagar. The contents are provided by NPTEL, IITs, UGC, CEC and IGNOU. The INFLIBNET Centre maintains the web portal (DTH Swayam Prabha website).
