A Fine Arts event in progress during Mardi Gras, 1983

Cultural Events , Student Activities

This photograph shows students taking part in a Fine Arts event - possibly sketching - at Mardi Gras ‘83. A photographer is also seen in this image, capturing a different angle of the same image that this photograph has captured. This photograph shows the participants seated in Shanti Kunj.

The Fine Arts events were traditionally held at Shanti Kunj, outdoors. The art events included painting, sketching, collage, poster making, cartooning, clay modelling, pot painting and sculpture (wax modelling or soap carving).

Mardi Gras, now known as Saarang, was a cultural festival occurring annually for 5 days with dance, music, quiz, debate, sketching, photography, drama, and other competitions. Mardi Gras 1983 took place from 26 to 30 January 1983. From the name that this album was given, this album appears to comprise images from day 2 of Mardi Gras ‘83, meaning that this photograph was taken on 27 January 1983.
