This photograph was taken during the event held to formally initiate the final phase of construction of the swimming pool. In addition to this, a souvenir related to the swimming pool was released for the benefit of the faculty and students. The event was attended by Mr. K. K. Shah (Governor of Tamil Nadu). The event was held at approximately 7:10 p.m. and possibly lasted around half an hour, according to the event itinerary.

It is not clear to us if this photograph was taken before the event or after it.

Pandalai (Director of IIT Madras, extreme left, first row), Mr. K. K. Shah (Governor of Tamil Nadu, centre, first row), Mr. C. V. Sethunathan (Registrar, behind Mr. Shah) and a student who is yet to be identified (extreme right).
