The 20th convocation was the first event to be held in the Student Activities Centre (SAC). The SAC was newly constructed at the time

Seen in the photograph is, Dr. Raja Ramanna (Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Bombay, first from left, seated), Mr. A. M. M. Arunachalam (former Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Madras, third from left, seated). The lady wearing a green saree is Mrs. Malathi Ramanna (wife Dr. Raja Ramanna). 
 
Dr. Ramanna (Chairman of the Board of Governors, IIT Bombay) was an Indian physicist, who was known for his role in India’s nuclear program in 1964. The nuclear program was in its early stages at the time. Mr. Arunachalam served as Chairman of IIT Madras from 1978 to 1981. The other personalities in the photograph are yet to be identified.
