Seen in the picture are Dr. Raja Ramanna (Chairman, Board of Governors of IIT Bombay, second from left), Mr. A. Sivasailam (Chairman, Board of Governors of IIT Madras, centre) and Mr. Giani Zail Singh (chief guest and President of India, second from right).

It is mentioned in the Annual Report of the year 1983-1984 that Dr. Raja Ramanna was awarded the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) on the day of the 20th convocation.
