The photograph was taken during the 20th convocation which was held at the newly built Student Activities Centre (SAC). Mr. Giani Zail Singh was the seventh President of India. He served his term from 1982 to 1987.

Seen in the photograph are, Mr. Giani Zail Singh (President of India and chief guest, wearing a white turban), Prof. Surjit Singh (Chemistry Department, wearing a red turban) and Dr. H. V. Hande (Minister of Health, in black shirt). Prof. Johnson Victor is visible to the extreme right.
