This photograph was taken at an official function during which the Federal Republic of Germany officially handed the Siemens 7580-E Computer System to IIT Madras. The computer was brought to the Institute in 1987 and installed late in the year. It was a gift from West Germany under the Indo-German Agreement.

Seen in the photograph, from the left, an unidentified person, Prof. L. S. Srinath (Director), Mr. A. L. Mudaliar (Chairman, Board of Governors), Mr. Hans Klein (Minister for Economic Co-operation, Federal Republic of Germany), Dr. Konrad Seitz (Ambassador, Federal Republic of Germany) and Mrs. Eva Seitz.
