In 1988, several German political figures and diplomats visited IIT Madras. The reason for this visit was to officially hand over the Siemens 7580-E Computer System to IIT Madras. Although the system arrived with 80 terminals in 1987, the official ceremony was held only in March 1988.
One of the German guests was Dr. Konrad Seitz (Ambassador, Federal Republic of Germany, right). In the photograph, he appears to be receiving a memento from Mr. A. L. Mudaliar (Chairman, Board of Governors) while Prof. L. S. Srinath (Director of IIT Madras) watches from the background (left).
