Taken during the official event held to hand over the Siemens 7580-E computer system to IIT Madras, this photograph shows the audience immersed in the proceedings of the function. Mr. Hans Klein, the Minister for Economic Co-operation, Federal Republic of Germany handed the system officially to IIT Madras. The Federal Republic of Germany had agreed to give the computer to IIT Madras as part of the Indo-German agreement.

Seen in the photograph, Prof. B. Ramaswami (Electrical Engineering Department, third row, second from left), Prof. J. C. Kuriacose (Department of Chemistry, third row, third from left) and Prof. N. V. C. Swamy (Department of Applied Mechanics, third row, fourth from left). The other persons in the photograph are yet to be identified.
