Convocations , Institute Events
In the photograph, V. Srinivasan (B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering), the winner of the President’s Prize, is seen leading the graduating students in the pledge. Also seen in the front row is Prof. J. B. Majhi (Department of Physics), who graduated with a Ph.D. during the year. In the front row, three students from left are wearing robes generally worn by the Ph.D. scholars that are seen to be of a lighter shade. V. Srinivasan (B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering) and another student are seen wearing robes that are worn by the undergraduate students during convocations.
During the convocations at IIT Madras, after all the prizes such as the ‘President of India prize’ and ‘Governor’s prize’ are distributed, it is then time for the students to take the pledge. Once the pledge is taken, the chief guest delivers the convocation address upon being requested by the Chairman to do so. Each year during the Convocations, the speeches delivered by the chief guests have been highly interesting, inspiring and relatable.
