Dr. M. S. Swaminathan (chief guest), and Prof. K. A. V. Pandalai (Director) are seen seated in the front row. Prof. C. Ramasastry (Department of physics) is seen seated in the second row of the dais (behind Dr. M. S. Swaminathan) during the 13th Convocation.

Prof. Pandalai was the third Director of IIT Madras. In 1967. He was invited to set up the Department of Aeronautical Engineering at IIT Madras. During his tenure as the Director, six Research Centres were established in the Institute. Dr. M. S. Swaminathan (chief guest) served as the seventh Chairman of the Board of Governors (from 1991 to 1997). He is an Indian geneticist and administrator known for his role in India’s Green Revolution. He played a significant role in introducing and developing high-yielding varieties of wheat in India.

Photographer:
C. Gourishankar (1926-2002). A geologist by qualification, Gourishankar started his career as a photographer after working for many years with the Geological Survey of India. In everything that he did, Gourishankar strove to achieve flawlessness and impeccable quality. Thus his photography too was characterised by this drive for perfection. Every photograph that Gourishankar took was meticulously planned and shot and printed with diligence and patience. Gourishankar carried out most of the official photography at IIT Madras in the 1960s.
