Prof. B. Sengupto introduces Prof. Gerhard Rouve to Mr. V. R. Nedunchezhian

Seen in the image from the left: Prof. Gerhard Rouve (Civil Engineering Department), Mr. V. R. Nedunchezhian (Minister of Education, Madras) and Prof. B. Sengupto (Director, IITM). From 1948 to 1952 Prof. Rouve studied civil and mechanical engineering at Technical University, Karlsruhe and in 1952 he joined the world famous ‘Rehbock-Laboratory’ (Hydraulics). From 1955 to 1958, he held the post of chief engineer at the laboratory. After four years in Turkey, Prof. Rouve joined IIT Madras on June 1st, 1962.

 
24th November 1967 marked an important milestone in the academic life of IIT Madras as it was the day the Institute launched the first number/issue of its research journal devoted to mathematics and physical sciences. Mr. V. R. Nedunchezhian (Minister of Education, Madras) was the chief guest at the event held to launch the Journal. The Journal was launched with an Editorial Board, composed of eminent mathematicians and scientists in India and abroad. The objective behind the Journal was to establish and maintain a publication in India for research papers of the highest quality. During his visit to the Institute Mr. V. R. Nedunchezhian was escorted by Prof B. Sengupto and shown the workshop facilities on the campus.
