This photograph was possibly taken on 21 January 2005, for the inauguration of Saarang’s 2005 edition. In the image, Prof. V. G. Idichandy is seen addressing the audience. Prof. V. G. Idichandy has been Dean of Students, and Deputy Director at IIT Madras; he has also been Chairman – JEE and has held posts as a professor.

The banner announcing Saarang 2005 is almost cut off by the frame of the photograph but is visible at the top left corner of the photograph. On the right side of the photograph, other members at the inauguration are seated, though not visible here, including Director M. S. Ananth, his wife Mrs. Jayashree Ananth, the chief guest for the event Mr. K. S. Sarma (IAS) and others.

Saarang (2005) was held from 21 to 26 January 2005. Numerous events and competitions, professional live music shows and workshops took place during the cultural festival.
