Sardar Ujjal Singh was the Governor of Punjab (September 1965 – 26 June 1966) and the Governor of Tamil Nadu (28 June 1966 - 16 June 1967). This photograph was taken when he visited IIT Madras in 1966 as the chief guest for the inauguration of Alakananda hostel. In the photograph, Sardar Ujjal Singh is seen planting a sapling on the grounds of Alakananda hostel to mark its inauguration.
