Refreshments at the Alakananda hostel inauguration, 1966
This photograph was taken when IIT Madras' Alakananda hostel was inaugurated. Alakananda hostel was inaugurated by Mrs. Ujjal Singh whereas Sardar Ujjal Singh was the chief guest for the occasion. Sardar Ujjal Singh was the Governor of Punjab (1 September 1965 – 26 June 1966) and the Governor of Tamil Nadu (28 June 1966 - 16 June 1967).
The photograph shows the distinguished guests, IIT Madras administrators and faculty members partaking in the refreshments provided after the inauguration of Alakananda hostel. Some of the the people in the image are Prof. R. K. Gupta, Mr. Mani (Workshop Superintendent), Sardar Ujjal Singh, Mrs. Ujjal Singh and Prof. B. Sengupto (the first Director of IIT Madras).
