Mrs. Subbulakshmi was a renowned vocalist and musician who won several awards including the Padma Bhushan in 1954 and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1956. She went on to receive the Padma Vibhushan in 1975 and Bharat Ratna in 1998. Her husband, Thiagaraja “Kalki” Sadasivam, was an Indian freedom fighter, writer and journalist. He was one of the founders of the Tamil magazine Kalki.
Mr. R. Natarajan was the first Registrar of IIT Madras. He served his tenure from 1959 to 1965.
