To the left of the chief guest is Prof. K. T. Chandy (Chairman, Board of Governors) followed by Prof. K. A. V. Pandalai (Director, IITM). To the right of the chief guest is Mr. K. K. Sha (Governor of Tamil Nadu), Mr. C. Subramaniam (Union Minister), Mr. V. R. Nedunchezhiyan (Minister of Finance), Prof. S. Sampath (Electrical Engineering), Prof. G. S. Laddha (Director, A. C. College of Technology), Prof. S. D. Nigam (Mathematics) and Prof. Ramasastry (Physics).
The eleventh convocation of IIT Madras took place on the 9th of September, 1974. The ceremony was held in the Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) ground which is situated within the Institute’s premises, adjacent to the iconic campus landmark: the Gajendra Circle. The convocation commenced at 04:00 pm that day and a large audience was present to witness the event. The chief speaker was Mrs. Indira Gandhi, the Prime Minister of India. Upon reaching the campus the chief speaker was given a guard of honour. After inspecting the guard, she adorned the convocation robes and was led to the dais for the commencement of the ceremony. The event commenced with an invocation.
