“The Jazz Show” is visible in the background of this photograph as Prof. V. G. Idichandy presents a memento to R. Prasanna, who is better known as Guitar Prasanna. Prof. V. G. Idichandy has been Dean of Students, and Deputy Director at IIT Madras; he has also been Chairman – JEE and has held posts as a professor.
The Jazz Show titled “Be the Change” was performed by R. Prasanna, with Jeff Coffin on the saxophone, Kai Eckhardt on the bass guitar and Derico Watson on the drums. Be the Change was also the title of the album released by R. Prasanna in 2004. Guitar Prasanna is a musician best known for performing Carnatic music on the guitar.
The event in the photograph took place on the stage at the Open Air Theatre (OAT) which is where events with a large audience, especially live shows, were held during Saarang. This edition of Saarang took place from 21 to 26 January 2005.
