Dr. K. L. Rao addresses the audience at the inauguration function of the Hydraulics Laboratory, 1970

Academic Facilities , Faculty , Inaugurations

A Campastimes article covering the inauguration, notes that as soon as Dr. K. L. Rao started speaking, it started raining and the event was shifted inside the laboratory. The article adds that the sound of the rain was loud due to the asbestos roof and it was difficult to hear the speech made by the chief guest.
Dr. Rao was an engineer who graduated from College of Engineering, Guindy. He designed the Nagarjunasagar and Bhakra Nangal dams and was known as the Father of Irrigation. He has also written an autobiography titled ‘Cusecs Candidate’.

Seen in the photograph is Dr. Gerhard Rouve (Civil Engineering Department, second from right, partially covered by Dr. Rao’s left hand).
