This photograph was taken during a special convocation held to confer the degree of Doctor of Science (honoris causa) on Dr. Richard von Weizsäcker (President, Federal Republic of Germany, third from left).
The person to the extreme left (at the back, wearing a hat) is Mrs. Marianne von Weizsäcker. Also featured in the picture are Prof. N. V. C. Swamy (Director, fourth from left), Prof. Sankaran Subramanian (Chemistry Department, fifth from left), Prof. R. Natarajan (Mechanical Engineering Department, sixth from left) and Mr. V. Shanmugam (Registrar, second from right). The other persons in the photograph are yet to be identified.
