This picture was captured at a unique ceremony where Dr. Richard von Weizsäcker, the President of the Federal Republic of Germany at that time, was granted an honorary Doctor of Science degree at IIT Madras.
Seen in this photograph are, from left, Dr. M. S. Swaminathan (Chairman, Board of Governors), Mrs. Eva Seitz (wife of German Ambassador Dr. Konrad Seitz) and Ms. Maneka Gandhi (Union Minister of State [Independent Charge], Environment and Forests, wearing a black sari). The lady to the extreme right is yet to be identified.
