This photograph was taken during a special convocation held at IIT Madras to confer the degree of Doctor of Science (honoris causa) on Dr. Richard von Weizsäcker.
Dr. Weizsäcker was the President of the Federal Republic of Germany. He visited IIT Madras with his wife Marianne. Also featured in the picture are, Prof. N. V. C. Swamy (Director, in the first row, extreme right) and Dr. M. S. Swaminathan (Chairman, Board of Governors, in the first row, second from right).
