This photograph was taken during a special convocation held at IIT Madras to confer the degree of Doctor of Science (honoris causa) on Dr. Richard von Weizsäcker (President of the Federal Republic of Germany).
As seen in the image, Prof. N. V. C. Swamy (Director, front row, right side), while Dr. Weizsäcker can be seen on the left in the front row. To the extreme right in the picture is Prof. Y. V. G. S. Murti (Physics Department). The others in the photograph are yet to be identified.
