The Distinguished Alumnus Award is the highest award presented by the institute for IIT Madras alumni.
This photograph has captured the then Director of IIT Madras, Prof. M. S. Ananth delivering a speech at the ceremony. Prof. M. S. Ananth was the Director of IIT Madras from 2001-2011. Prof. M. S. Ananth has held several positions in IIT Madras including Professor and Head of Department. The chief guest for the Institute Day was Mr. K. V. Rangaswami, an alumnus of IIT Madras, and at the time, the Whole-time Director & President (Construction) of L&T Ltd.
