Students perform the drama ‘If It Were To Happen’ during the Fourth Institute Day, 1963

In this play, Mr. K. S. Krishnamurthy (Electrical Engineering Department, 1961) played the part of the scientist and Mr. Sriram (department and year yet to be determined) played the role of his assistant. Mr. C. V. Sahasranamam (Mechanical Engineering Department, 1960) played the lady character and Mr. S. M. Krishnan (Mechanical Engineering Department, 1961-66) was the hero. (Identified by Mr. K. Narayanan, Electrical Engineering Department, 1963-66). 

According to the 15 April 1963 edition of Campastimes, the entertainment programme consisted of a German sketch, an English drama, a Tamil play and a Malayalam shadow-play. According to this report the Open Air Theatre was jam packed with around 4000 people.

C. Gourishankar (1936-2002). A geologist by qualification, Gourishankar started his career as a photographer after working for many years with the Geological Survey of India. In everything that he did, Gourishankar strove to achieve flawlessness and impeccable quality. Thus his photography too was characterised by this drive for perfection. Every photograph that Gourishankar took was meticulously planned and shot and printed with diligence and patience. Gourishankar carried out most of the official photography at IIT Madras in the 1960s.
