This photograph was taken during the 50th Institute Day held on 17 April 2009. Institute Days commemorate achievements of students, faculty and alumni. One of such awards given at the Institute Day is the Distinguished Alumnus Award (DAA) which is the highest award IIT Madras presents to its alumni.
Mr. M. G. Parameswaran was one of the recipients of the Distinguished Alumnus Award that year. In the photograph, he is seen delivering a speech at the 50th Institute Day ceremony. Mr. M. G. Parameswaran graduated from IIT Madras with a B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering in 1977 and is an Executive Director and CEO at Draft FCB Ulka Advertising.
In the photograph, administrators of the institute and some of the other recipients can also be seen seated on the stage. In the first row (from left to right) are Prof. V. G. Idichandy (Dean of Students, IIT Madras), Mr. Jagadeesh S. Moodera, Mr. Shrikumar Suryanarayanan, Mr. K. V. Rangaswami (chief guest), Prof. M. S. Ananth (Director of IIT Madras, 2001-2011), Mr. K. Ravi Kumar and Mr. D. Chandrasekhar.
The 50th Institute Day was celebrated on 17 April 2009. Mr. K. V. Rangaswami, the chief guest for the ceremony, is an alumnus of IIT Madras, and the Whole-time Director & President (Construction), L&T Ltd. The ceremony was presided over by the then Director of the Institute, Prof. M. S. Ananth who was Director from 2001-2011.
