This photograph was taken on 17 April 2009 during the 50th Institute Day ceremony. During Institute Days, several Prizes and awards are also given to students and alumni. One of such awards given at the Institute Day is the Distinguished Alumnus Award (DAA) which is the highest award IIT Madras presents to its alumni.
This photograph shows Mr. K. Ravi Kumar, one of the recipients of the Distinguished Alumnus Award that year addressing the audience. Mr. K. Ravi Kumar graduated from IIT Madras with an MTech in Electrical Engineering in 1972 and is most recently Chairman & Managing Director at Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd.
The chief guest for the Institute Day was Mr. K. V. Rangaswami, an alumnus of IIT Madras, and at the time, the Whole-time Director & President (Construction) of L&T Ltd.
