This photograph was taken during the 50th Institute Day of IIT Madras on 17 April 2009. IIT Madras presents its highest award to alumni, known as the Distinguished Alumnus Award (DAA), during Institute Days.

The photograph shows a section of the audience members that day. The chief guest for the ceremony was Mr. K. V. Rangaswami, an alumnus of IIT Madras, and at the time, the Whole-time Director & President (Construction), L&T Ltd. Several faculty members and administrators can also be seen seated in the front rows of the audience.
