The distinguished guests seated on the stage listen to a speech made at the 50th Institute Day of IIT Madras. IIT Madras presents its highest award to alumni, known as the Distinguished Alumnus Award (DAA), during Institute Days. The recipients of the award can be seen seated on the stage along with administrative members of the Institute.
The chief guest for the ceremony was Mr. K. V. Rangaswami, then the Whole-time Director & President (Construction), L&T Ltd. Mr. K. V. Rangaswami is also an alumnus of IIT Madras, having completed his B.Tech. in Civil Engineering in 1965. The event was presided over by Prof. M. S. Ananth (Director of IIT Madras, 2001-2011), and was held on 17 April 2009.
