In this image, Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthi is pictured addressing the audience at the 50th Institute Day function of IIT Madras which took place on 17 April 2009.

IIT Madras presents its highest award to alumni, known as the Distinguished Alumnus Award (DAA), during Institute Days. The people on the stage include administrative members and the recipients of the Distinguished Alumnus Award that year. The chief guest for the ceremony was Mr. K. V. Rangaswami, an alumnus of IIT Madras, and at the time, the Whole-time Director & President (Construction), L&T Ltd.

The distinguished guests in the photograph are (from the left to the right): Prof. V. G. Idichandy, Dr. Jagadeesh S. Moodera, Mr. Shrikumar Suryanarayan, Mr. K. V. Rangaswami, Prof. M. S. Ananth (Director of IIT Madras, 2001-2011), Mr. M. G. Parameswaran, Mr. K. Ravi Kumar and Mr. D. Chandrasekhar. Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthi, the then Dean of Planning, followed Prof. M. S. Ananth as the next Director of IIT Madras.
