IIT Madras presents its highest award to alumni, known as the Distinguished Alumnus Award (DAA), during Institute Days. Mr. K. Ravi Kumar was one of the recipients that year. He graduated from IIT Madras with an MTech in Electrical Engineering in 1972 and is most recently Chairman & Managing Director at Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd.
The chief guest for the ceremony was Mr. K. V. Rangaswami, an alumnus of IIT Madras, and the Whole-time Director & President (Construction), L&T Ltd. The ceremony was presided over by the then Director of the Institute, Prof. M. S. Ananth who was Director from 2001-2011.
