A farewell function was held in honour of Dr. A. L. Mudaliar on 30th August 1969. The function commenced at 05:30 pm on that Saturday. Although the venue was initially the Open Air Theatre on the Institute campus, its function was held in the Aero Hangar due to unfavourable weather conditions. The event was presided over by Mr H. V. R. Iengar. In his speech, Mr. H. V. R. Iengar praised his predecessor on his achievements regarding the Institute, “…his great vision and capacity for infinite care for detail and great meticulousness in the performance of his daily tasks...”. H. V. R. Iengar was the sixth Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from 1st March 1957 to 28th February 1962.During Iengar's tenure, the Indian coinage system shifted from the earlier pies, paise, and anna system to the modern decimal coinage system. During his tenure also variable cash reserve ratio and selective credit control were introduced for the first time in India. He received the Padma Vibhushan in 1962.
