In 1988, several distinguished German visitors, including Mr. Hans Klein, Dr. Konrad Seitz visited IIT Madras. The reason for this visit was to officially hand over the Siemens 7580-E Computer System to the Institute. The computer was a gift from the Federal Republic of Germany. While the German Government funded the computer, the Indian Government too played a role in this. The Indian Government reportedly paid 18 percent of the amount. Mudaliar was the sixth Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIT Madras. He was the son of Dr. A. L. Mudaliar, the first Chairman of the Institute and the younger brother of Prof. A.
