  This photograph was taken in 2005 during one of Saarang’s music competitions. In the photograph are two students taking part in a music competition at Saarang 2005. This event was held at the Central Lecture Theatre (CLT), Humanities and Sciences Block (HSB). This was one of the music competitions during Saarang, which also included Indian light music and Western music.  Saarang 2005 contained many events including professional shows such as classical music shows and Rock shows; competitions for the students included dance, music, quiz and debate.

This photograph shows the members of Moksha, an Indian band, performing at the Rock Show during Saarang on January 22, 2005. The vocalist and guitarist are performing together as a person in the audience takes a video of the performance on what appears to be a handheld Sony video-camera. Saarang 2005 was held for 6 days from 21 to 26 January, 2005. Numerous events and competitions were conducted including the Rock Show. The attendance at professional shows that year was very high.

This photo shows a member of the Indian band Orange Street performing during the Rock Show on 22 January 2005. Students are also seen to be enjoying the performance. Orange Street was the headliner for the Rock Show during Saarang 2005.  Saarang 2005 was held from 21-26 January. Earlier known as Mardi Gras, Saarang is the cultural festival of IIT Madras; it has multiple individual and group competitions, and informal events. Apart from this, Saarang also includes classical and professional shows with events such as Choreo Night, Classical Music Night, etc.

Apart from these, the telecommunications company Nokia’s name is seen; Nokia was one of the sponsors for Saarang 2005. The spotlights on the stage shine upon the participants in Decibels 2005. This photograph shows some of the audience members of the Saarang Main Quiz in 2005. There were many types of quizzes conducted during Saarang and this was one of them. Apart from quiz, dance, and music, other events were also held during Saarang. Some of the students can be seen holding notebooks in the photograph.  A computer and projector can also be seen on the table in the photograph. These would be used to project quiz questions on to a screen to be viewed by participants, judges, and the audience. Saarang 2005 was held from 21 to 26 January.

From the rock music symbol shown by audience members, it is possible that this photograph captured some of the audience members at Saarang 2005’s Rock Show. The Rock Show was headlined by Indian band Orange Street and also had performances by the Indian band Moksha. The people in the photograph seem to be the closest to the stage as shown by the railing provided. Saarang 2005 was held from 21 to 26 January 2005. All the professional shows held during Saarang 2005 were said to have had huge audiences and were a big success.

  This photograph, taken during Saarang 2005, captured a moment from a music competition round. Participants are seen to be performing with instruments including a guitar and percussion instruments. Several other events were also held during Saarang apart from events such as quizzes, debates, dance, and music. The banner behind the participants says: “Castrol Presents Saarang 2005”. This event was held at a location between the Humanities and Sciences Block (HSB) and the Open Air Theatre (OAT). Saarang 2005 was conducted from 21 to 26 January 2005.

This photograph was very likely taken before the performance by Ayaan and Amaan Ali Bangash during Saarang 2005’s Classical Music Night held on the first day of Saarang, 21 January 2005. Both the classical musicians are well-known for their musical prowess with the sarod, and are also sons of famed sarod player and musician Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. During the performance, Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash were accompanied by Mr. Uma Shankar on ghatam and Sandeep Das on tabla.  The event was said to have a large crowd of about 4000.
