The photograph was taken at the Bose-Einstein Guest House on the day that IIT Madras was handed the Siemens 7580-E computer system from the Federal Republic of Germany.
Mr. A. L. Mudaliar was the sixth Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIT Madras. He was the son of Dr. A. L. Mudaliar, the first Chairman of the Institute and the younger brother of Prof. A. Ramachandran, the second Director of the Institute. He served as the Chairman from December 1987 to January 1991.
The gentleman that Mr. Mudaliar is interacting with is yet to be identified.
