The photograph shows Mr. Hans Klein and others taking a look at a Siemens computer terminal placed to the side of the stage at the Central Lecture Theatre (CLT). Mr. Klein was the Minister for Economic Co-operation for the Federal Republic of Germany. He visited IIT Madras to officially hand over the Siemens 7580-E Computer System to the Institute.
According to a Campastimes interview with Mr. P. Seshasayi (manager of the new Computer Centre), 80 terminals were brought to India from Germany. The plan was to place around 30-35 terminals at the Computer Centre and the rest at different parts of the campus.
