Taken at the Central Lecture Theatre (CLT), this photograph shows some of the administrators and distinguished guests at IIT Madras. The event was held to officially hand over the West German gift to IIT Madras. This gift was the Siemens 7580-E Computer System to IIT Madras which arrived towards the end of 1987. The installation for the system started on 23 November 1987 and it was completed on 7 December 1987. Several important political figures from the Federal Republic of Germany visited IIT Madras for this function.
