This is a liquid extraction unit from the Transfer Operations laboratory of the Chemical Engineering department, a gift from Germany in the institute's early days. Behind it rises a distillation column, another hallmark of chemical engineering practice. In today’s context, the cost of operating such units has become prohibitive, and they are preserved mainly for demonstration purposes.
