Vincent Thevor, known as Vincy or Vince, was the bassist of the popular thrash metal band Brahma. Brahma performed at IIT Madras’ Saarang in 2003, at the rock night. Brahma, formed in 1993, was one of the earliest metal acts from India. Their music was loud, aggressive and explosive, everything a metal fan could ask for.
This photograph shows a picture of Devraj Sanyal, the singer of the band Brahma, which headlined the rock show on the final day of Saarang. Brahma, a thrash metal band from Mumbai, was formed in 1993. It comprised Vince Thevor on the bass, Cyrus Gorimar on the drums, John Ferns on the lead guitars and Devraj Sanyal on the vocals. Formed in 1993, Brahma was one of India’s early metal bands. They performed at IIT Madras during the rock night, on the final day of Saarang. The rock show at Saarang is famous for the big names it has hosted including Opeth, Veil of Maya, Pain of Salvation and many others. In the image, Devraj Sanyal (extreme left, vocals), John Ferns (lead guitars) and Cyrus Gorimar (on the drums).
This photograph was taken during rock night, the final day of Saarang. Thrash metal band Brahma from Mumbai performed at the Open Air Theatre, headlining the rock show. Cyrus Gorimar was one of the four-member band which performed at IIT Madras. Rock night was one of the most anticipated events at Saarang. Over the years, some of the biggest rock and metal names in India and the world have performed at IIT Madras. These include Avial, Motherjane, Opeth, Pain of Salvation and Led Zepplica.
Saarang is the annual cultural and social fest of IIT Madras. It is usually held during January. The event spans over several days, involving competitions and shows. Students from various colleges in the city and country participate in the events organized at IIT Madras. The photograph shows one of the trophies which was handed out to the students. The text written on the trophy is ‘Best College Trophy’. We are not sure who won this trophy, nor do we know who the person in the photograph is.
