The 30th Inter-IIT Sports Meet welcomed Ramesh Krishnan, a renowned Indian tennis player, as its chief guest in 1994. According to Wikipedia, Krishnan achieved great success as a junior player, winning both the Wimbledon and French Open titles in the late 1970s. In the 1980s, he reached the quarterfinals of three Grand Slam tournaments and was a member of the Indian team that made it to the Davis Cup final in 1987. In 1989, Krishnan triumphed over Mats Wilander, who was then the world's top-ranked player, at the Australian Open.

This photograph was captured at the 30th Inter-IIT Sports Meet at IIT Madras.  A report in the Annual Report of IIT Madras, 1994 notes that the event was washed out after the first two days. Rains halted the outdoor activities while the indoor events took place without any problems. The participants of this race are yet to be identified. According to IIT Madras' Annual Report of 1994, the hosts were doing extremely well in the events before rains played spoilsport.
