The Third Institute Day took place at the Institute’s Building Sciences Block on the IITM campus. The chief guest for the event was Dr. P. Subbarayan (Union Minister of Transport and Communications). The Institute Day of IIT Madras is a day marked to celebrate the hard work and success of people who have shown excellence in academics as well as extracurricular activities. A number of students, faculty and dignitaries were present at the event. Prizes were awarded to students, faculty and alumni as well. The Third Institute Day took place at the Institute’s Building Sciences Block on the IITM campus. The Institute Day of IIT Madras is a day marked to celebrate and recognize the hard work and success of people who have shown excellence in academics as well as extracurricular activities. In the image, Mrs. Shanti Sengupto hands over a prize to Mr. C. V. Sahasranama. Mr. C. V. Sahasranama’s make-up from the skit he just performed a woman role in is intact but he has changed out of his costume to collect his award.

The chief guest for the Third Institute Day of IIT Madras was Dr. Paramasivan Subbarayan (1889-1962), the well-known Indian advocate and politician. He was also an ardent patriot, able administrator and eminent social reformer. He was born in Tamil Nadu and graduated from Presidency College, Madras. He pursued his M.A. at the University of Oxford and subsequently obtained an LLB from Trinity College, Dublin. He started his career as an advocate in the Madras High Court. He was an active member of the Madras Parliament from 1921-1949 and was nominated to the Madras Legislative Council in 1922…
