Dr. h. c. Heinrich Luebke (President of the Federal Republic of Germany) was visiting IIT Madras to lay the foundation stone for the institute to strengthen the Indo-German bond. The engraving on the stone states that it was laid by Dr. Heinrich Luebke (chief guest), and also the fact that it is a symbol of Indo-German co-operation. The writing is both in English and Hindi. Dr. Heinrich Luebke was the President of the Federal Republic of Germany. He was the chief guest at this event where the foundation stone was laid. The foundation stone is displayed on the wall on the ground floor of the Administration Block at IIT Madras, near the security office.
