In the image, Prof. S. Sampath (Deputy Director, second from left), introduces Dr. Emil Lehnartz (President of D. A. A. D., extreme left) to Mr. Venkatesh Mannar (B. Tech. Chemical Engineering, 1970).  The photograph was taken during the seminar organized by D. A. A. D. at IIT Madras. The seminar was held by the organization to bring together the former scholarship holders from the country in order to discuss ways to improve the programme. The gentleman (extreme right) is yet to be identified.

This photograph was taken in January 1968, when the President of the German Academic Exchange Service (D. A. A. D.) visited IIT Madras in order to attend a seminar organized by D. A. A. D. Dr. Lehnartz was the President of the organization from 1960 to 1968. This was his final year as President, and sources indicate that he would be retiring soon after this event.  Seen in the image, Mrs. Lehnartz (extreme left) and Dr. E. Lehnartz (President of the D. A. A. D., seated second from left).

This photograph was taken during the visit of Dr. Emil Lehnartz to IIT Madras in January 1968. Dr. Lehnartz was the President of the German Academic Exchange Service (D. A. A. D.). The organization conducted a seminar at IIT Madras. The seminar was held to bring together some of the former scholarship holders of the programme and discuss the scope for the future with regard to the D. A. A. D. This photograph was taken during the seminar organized by the German Academic Exchange Service (D. A. A. D.). The seminar was held to discuss further improvements and changes to be made to the exchange programme. The event was held in January 1968, and it is reported in the Convocation Brochure that over 50 Indian students who were former German scholarship holders attended the event.  Dr. Emil Lehnartz (President of the D. In January 1968, the German Academic Exchange Service (D. A. A. D.) organized a seminar for former scholarship holders of the exchange programme at IIT Madras. During the course of the event, refreshments, lunch and dinner were organized where the distinguished guests, faculty and students were able to interact.  Seen in the photograph, Prof. A. Ramachandran (Director of IIT Madras, second from left) and Dr. E. Lehnartz (President of the D. A. A. D., extreme right).

Prof. S. Sampath (Deputy Director, second from left) is showing Dr. Emil Lehnartz (President of the D. A. A. D.) an issue of the campus publication Campastimes. This can be ascertained by the size of the magazine which was printed on A3 size papers in the 1960s. Prof. Sampath was the publisher of Campastimes at this time. To Prof. Sampath’s left hand side (third from left) is Mr. Venkatesh Mannar (B. Tech. Chemical Engineering, 1970). Mr. Mannar was the student editor of Campastimes during this academic year. This photograph was taken at the seminar organized by the German Academic Exchange Service (D. A. A. D.) in January 1968. This seminar was attended by over 50 Indian grantees of German scholarships. There were also former scholarship holders in attendance. The sign board in the photograph has the words “Seminar for former scholarship holders of the German Academic Exchange Service [DAAD]” written on it. The D. A. A.
