This photograph was taken during the 50th Institute Day celebrations in 2009. IIT Madras also presents its highest award to alumni, known as the Distinguished Alumnus Award (DAA), during Institute Days.
The photograph shows a section of the audience members that day. Many of the audience members were faculty members of the Institute.
The chief guest for the ceremony was Mr. K. V. Rangaswami, an alumnus of IIT Madras, and at the time, the Whole-time Director & President (Construction), L&T Ltd.
