Third Inter IIT Sports Meet

The Third Inter-IIT Sports Meet took place at IIT Madras. It was the first one to be held at Madras. IIT Kharagpur had won the previous two Inter-IITs and followed up with a hattrick of victories by winning this meet as well. IIT Bombay were runners up and IIT Madras secured third place.

Mr. Srinivasan (Physical Training Instructor) is seen to the right of Dr. A. L. Mudaliar (Chairman, Board of Governors), and Mr. Syed Abdul Aleem (Student Secretary) is seen to the left hand side of the student who is receiving the prize. The student is yet to be identified.

C. Gourishankar (1936-2002). A geologist by qualification, Gourishankar started his career as a photographer after working for many years with the Geological Survey of India. In everything that he did, Gourishankar strove to achieve flawlessness and impeccable quality. Thus his photography too was characterised by this drive for perfection. Every photograph that Gourishankar took was meticulously planned and shot and printed with diligence and patience. Gourishankar carried out most of the official photography at IIT Madras in the 1960s.
