This photograph was taken during the visit of the President of the German Academic Exchange Service (D. A. A. D.) Dr. Emil Lehnartz in January 1968. The D. A. A. D. organized a seminar at IIT Madras for former scholarship holders of the service. There is photographic evidence that there was a special dinner, lunch and refreshments served during the event.

Seen in the image, Prof. A. Ramachandran (Director of IIT Madras, extreme left), Mrs. Lehnartz (second from left), Dr. Emil Lehnartz (President of D. A. A. D., third from left) and Prof. B. V. A. Rao (Department of Applied Mechanics, standing with arms folded). The person speaking is yet to be identified.
