Mr. C. Subramaniam salutes an officer during the Second Institute Day, 1961

Mr. C. Subramaniam was the Minister for Education, Law and Finance for Madras State from 1952 to 1962. In an interview with Prof. Ajit Kolar, Mr. R. Natarajan, the first Registrar of IIT Madras, says that “Subramaniam was a very dynamic minister, he was always thinking of the country and the state”. 

Mr. C. Subramaniam was also present at the inauguration function of the Computer Centre of IIT Madras in 1973. At the time, he had just completed his tenure as Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission (1971-1972).

Photographer:
C. Gourishankar (1936-2002). A geologist by qualification, Gourishankar started his career as a photographer after working for many years with the Geological Survey of India. In everything that he did, Gourishankar strove to achieve flawlessness and impeccable quality. Thus his photography too was characterised by this drive for perfection. Every photograph that Gourishankar took was meticulously planned and shot and printed with diligence and patience. Gourishankar carried out most of the official photography at IIT Madras in the 1960s.
