Mr. R. Natarajan delivers his humorous talk on “Mutiny on the Bounty”, 1965

This photograph was taken during the Sixth Institute Day. According to the Annual Report of 1964, Mr. R. Natarajan delivered his talk after Gymkhana President Prof. P. C. Varghese read out the Annual Report. 

Mr R. Natarajan, the Registrar, was known for his oratorical skills. His speeches and articles both were eloquently presented. His popular articles centred on the game of cricket are available in various Annual Numbers, and several other publications. In an Oral History Narrative interview conducted and documented by the Heritage Centre of IIT Madras, Mr. Mahadevan of the first batch of IIT Madras talks about Mr. R. Natarajan’s Institute Day talks: “The highlight of the Institute Day, always used to be his talk. He will talk for about half an hour, and absolutely marvellous oration, he used to give. People used to just stay back only to listen to him.”

C. Gourishankar (1936-2002). A geologist by qualification, Gourishankar started his career as a photographer after working for many years with the Geological Survey of India. In everything that he did, Gourishankar strove to achieve flawlessness and impeccable quality. Thus his photography too was characterised by this drive for perfection. Every photograph that Gourishankar took was meticulously planned and shot and printed with diligence and patience. Gourishankar carried out most of the official photography at IIT Madras in the 1960s.
