Mr. V. Srinivasan receives the President's Prize from Sir C.V. Raman

The coveted President’s Prize (best academic record) was secured by Mr. V. Srinivasan (B. Tech. in Mechanical Engineering – 5 years), at that time there was also a 3 year B. Tech programme available to students. V. Srinivasan also received an Institute Merit Prize during the ceremony. He went on to work briefly for Larsen & Tourbo, Mumbai, after which he studied for M.S. and Ph. D. degrees in industrial administration at Carnegie-Mellon University, Pennsylvania. His area of expertise is Market Research and is most known for his research in conjoint analysis. He has been a consultant for a number of companies and won an innumerable number of awards including The Parlin Award and The Churchill Award. He is currently (2020) the Adams Distinguished Professor of Management, Emeritus at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, Stanford University and is a fellow of the American Market Association, Institute for Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS) and ISMS. The American Marketing Association has established the ‘Srinivasan Young Scholar Award’ (in quantitative methodology) to be awarded annually at its Summer Conference.

C. Gourishankar (1936-2002). A geologist by qualification, Gourishankar started his career as a photographer after working for many years with the Geological Survey of India. In everything that he did, Gourishankar strove to achieve flawlessness and impeccable quality. Thus his photography too was characterised by this drive for perfection. Every photograph that Gourishankar took was meticulously planned and shot and printed with diligence and patience. Gourishankar carried out most of the official photography at IIT Madras in the 1960s.
